This article will help you to maximise your benefits of using OurSys ERP's production module.
The article covers masters, transactions and reports related to Production.
Bill of Material Correctness
It is critical to define the bill of material in terms of unique items. Many companies struggle with duplicate items and therefore their BOMs go wrong.
OurSys also provides validation for the BOM. There is a report which shows expected vs actual consumption and Job wise costing report also shows actual consumption. Using these reports BOMs can be corrected.
Setting Machine Type Master
All similar machines in terms of process, capabilities and rate per hour should be clubbed into machine types.
The process layout is in terms of these machine types. The rate per hour of the machine type must be correctly defined. This helps in accurate costing of the item.
It has been found that rates are either not filled up or filled up with old incorrect data.
You can also upload files related to maintenance of such machines in the machine type master.
There is a provision to mark machines as Active and Inactive. Using this feature, the dropdown of machines can be reduced to have only active machines.
Machine should also be periodically calibrated and the records and reminders must be maintained in OurSys.
Process Type Master
The Process wise load report depends on the Manufacturing Process master. Thus the process types must be clubbed accordingly.
Here too, irrelevant old processes must be marked as Inactive to reduce the clutter.
Process Layout Master
Process Layout master is critical and should be checked and approved as the flow of the production and the costing depends on it.
Ensure that the cycle times, setup times and machine types are set correctly. There is a provision in OurSys to mass update the cycle times based on actual average cycle times.
Cleaning up old non-moving Job Orders
Old open Job Orders result in wrong MRP calculations. Therefore it is important to have real time correct job order data.
OurSys provides to identify such job orders and close them.
We will cover important dashboards and reports in the next part.
